Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING WINDS
For people in Illawarra and parts of Mid North Coast, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, Northern Tablelands and Hunter Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:08 pm Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Damaging winds about parts of the Great Dividing Range and the Illawarra, including Wollongong, easing on Friday.
Weather Situation: A complex low pressure system lies to the northeast of Tasmania and is bringing strong west to southwesterly flow over elevated parts of the Great Dividing Range and the Illawarra district this evening, easing during Friday.
For SOUTHERN and CENTRAL RANGES, including the SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible tonight and into early Friday morning.
For parts of the ILLAWARRA COAST: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS in excess of 90 km/h are possible tonight and into early Friday morning.
For NORTHERN RANGES above 1000 metres: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible tonight and into early Friday morning.
Winds are expected to ease about the Southern and Central Tablelands and Illawarra early Friday morning, and about the remainder of the warning area by late Friday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Goulburn, Nowra, Katoomba, Bowral, Braidwood, Dorrigo, Drake, Ebor, Nowendoc, Barrington Tops and Bulli.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
