Warning details
For SOUTHERN and CENTRAL RANGES below 1900 metres from Katoomba and Braidwood: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible today.
For ALPINE AREAS in the western SNOWY MOUNTAINS and ACT: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are occurring above 1900 metres this morning. Winds are expected to ease later this morning, before redeveloping again in the evening. DAMAGING WINDS averaging 50 to 60 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h are again possible below 1900 metres from late Wednesday. BLIZZARD conditions are possible above 1400 metres from Wednesday evening. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Katoomba, Braidwood, Ebor, Nowendoc, Barrington Tops, Thredbo Tops and Mt Ginini.
Thredbo has recorded mean winds of 96 km/h and a wind gust of 117 km/h at 4:08 am Wednesday.

* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
