Severe Weather Warning

for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in parts of Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Districts.

Issued at 10:36 pm Wednesday, 3 June 2026.

Damaging winds continuing about the central and southern ranges, extending to Alpine areas tonight with possible blizzards.

Weather Situation: A complex low pressure system is moving east through the Bass Strait, bringing strong westerly flow over elevated parts of the Great Dividing Range tonight through to early Friday.

For SOUTHERN and CENTRAL RANGES from Katoomba and Braidwood: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible tonight and into Thursday.

For western SNOWY MOUNTAINS below 1900 metres and the ACT ranges: Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible tonight and into Thursday.

For ALPINE PEAKS in the SNOWY MOUNTAINS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are forecast to redevelop again tonight and continue into Thursday. BLIZZARD conditions are possible above 1400 metres from this evening. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.

Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Katoomba, Braidwood, Ebor, Nowendoc, Barrington Tops, Thredbo Tops and Mt Ginini.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
