Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland

for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES

For people in parts of Western Downs and South Burnett Council Areas.

Issued at 7:22 pm Tuesday, 6 October 2026.

Severe thunderstorms about Jandowae, tracking northeast towards Kingaroy.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:15 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones was detected near the ranges north of Jandowae. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect the area west of Kingaroy and the area southwest of Kingaroy by 7:45 pm and Kingaroy, the area south of Kingaroy and the area northwest of Kingaroy by 8:15 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 8:25 pm.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Other warnings may be current.
