This Flood Watch provides early advice of possible flooding within the specified catchments

Initial Flood Watch for parts of the North, North East and North West catchments and the River Derwent

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FLOOD WATCH AREA FROM SATURDAY

A low pressure system and associated trough and cold front is expected to move across Tasmania on Saturday, bringing rainfall and thunderstorms. This rainfall is expected to cause river level rises, with minor flooding possible across the Flood Watch area from Saturday.

Catchments are wet following recent rainfall and are likely to respond relatively quickly to further rainfall.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Derwent River

Mersey River

Meander River

Macquarie River

South Esk River

North Esk River

Safety Advice:

  • Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
  • Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
  • Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
  • Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
